I&#8217;ve just listed out some of the big things I needed while I was undergoing cancer treatment.  It was written for a magazine in January 2021, but I&#8217;m not sure how much of it was published!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bCancer messes with your head.\u00a0 From the second you\u2019re diagnosed, till&#8230; well, I\u2019m not sure actually.\u00a0 Even after a year in remission, I\u2019m still gripped by the \u00a0fear of a positive CT scan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re just not the same once your mortality has been tested.\u00a0 There\u2019s going to be changes.\u00a0 Some are short term, others might last longer.\u00a0 Maybe forever.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-if-i-was-to-do-this-all-again-i-d-change-a-few-things\">If I was to do this all again, I\u2019d change a few things.<br><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>I\u2019m not sure how I feel.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even know what to believe at the moment, and I\u2019m even questioning who I am.\u00a0 So please just bear with me.\u00a0 Nothing has changed, I love you and appreciate you.\u00a0 But, I\u2019m not going to be myself for a while.<\/li><li>I\u2019m scared.\u00a0 Mostly because I don\u2019t know what to expect.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to\u00a0happen, nobody does.\u00a0 I\u2019ll lash out sometimes, and I\u2019m sorry.<\/li><li>Sometimes I get overwhelmed.\u00a0 There\u2019s a lot going on in my mind.\u00a0 I need to be on my own, without the noise and the fuss.\u00a0 I\u2019ll run and hide sometimes.<\/li><li>I\u2019ve never been so tired.\u00a0 Dealing with cancer really takes it out of me.\u00a0 I\u2019ll fall asleep on the sofa, I\u2019m the car and might not be able to get out of bed some days.\u00a0 Just let me be for a while, it won\u2019t last forever<\/li><li>I\u2019m tired, but I also can\u2019t sleep.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s the anxiety, the pain or the drugs, I can\u2019t sleep at night.\u00a0 Some nights I\u2019ll just lay there drenched in my own sweat, fighting my own mind.<\/li><li>Can we not make a big deal of this?\u00a0 I\u2019m not a victim, a hero, or a fighter, and definitely not a warrior.\u00a0 I\u2019m just ill, and trying to get better one day at a time.<\/li><li>It\u2019s my story, and I don\u2019t want other people telling their own version.\u00a0 You know how people get, and I don\u2019t want their drama.<\/li><li>Nobody knows how long this thing is going to last.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know anything past tomorrow, but I\u2019m determined to see it through. \u00a0<\/li><li>I need you around, just being you.\u00a0 Normal is everything I\u2019ve ever needed<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a piece I wrote about how people can give support for cancer patients.
