{"id":497,"date":"2020-11-09T18:22:40","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T18:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.knob.blog\/?p=497"},"modified":"2020-12-05T16:55:41","modified_gmt":"2020-12-05T16:55:41","slug":"hair-teeth-and-nails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.knob.blog\/penile-cancer-information\/hair-teeth-and-nails\/","title":{"rendered":"Hair, teeth and nails."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-ddfcb0d2-818c-4152-a502-e2079315d9d3\">My groin is smooth and shiny.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-cb2c5c2a-7aff-4c13-81c6-457d716379b3\">Radiotherapy made my whole groin area <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/radiotherapy\/side-effects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">completely bald<\/a>. There was not a pubic hair to be found, and it kept me hair free for what seemed like an eternity!&nbsp; So just how long does it take for your hair to grow back after radiotherapy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-8854ea9f-2879-4616-abf6-33c09233fc38\">Well&#8230; &nbsp;it\u2019s not that I\u2019ve been counting, but my pubic hair took 118 days to start growing back.&nbsp; Although, with a vengeance I might add!&nbsp; So, 3 months is a good target.&nbsp; It might be a bit patchy to begin with too, but who cares, nobody likes pubic hair really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-5370df43-9201-42d0-ae97-fac9ce4371c1\">When you&#8217;re recovering, lots of things happen at once. It\u2019s clear that it\u2019s coincided with some other things going back to normal. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knob.blog\/penile-cancer-journal\/its-never-simple-is-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ball bag swelling going down<\/a> and less swelling episodes in the mornings as well as the hair &#8211; just a general sense of healing really!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a4dcd2f9-3381-4021-b4e6-8270e1d59b03\">I didn\u2019t lose any head hair during the whole chemo bit. I\u2019m definitely not the man to ask about anything on that score, and I don&#8217;t have that much anyway. One really strange thing, is that when the chemo wears off, you seem to get a big growth spurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-2605ef9b-ce19-4afd-95fb-8b552f49a436\">You&#8217;re going to have to change your manicure bookings.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-23147858-4042-4f69-8119-981c80df8845\">Nails don\u2019t grow at all throughout chemo. Then, when it starts to wear off, boom! I could almost see them growing overnight, it was crazy. Just like the hair, it&#8217;s as if some kind of growth hormone just kicks in and your nails get really long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-650f4de2-ad75-44cb-a9f0-257b494f4cbf\">The dentist is going to love you.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-4f4434cf-f7bd-4687-860e-95c99029e9c2\">My teeth were a massive problem. Throughout my life, my teeth have been pretty trouble free, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knob.blog\/penile-cancer-journal\/9-months-cancer-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chemo made all of my fillings<\/a> fall out. To make matters much much worse, I couldn\u2019t get a dental appointment for months because of COVID!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-580d73dd-fd37-4bbe-8236-c659d243b1e6\">The upshot? &nbsp;11 appointments, root canal, all my fillings put back in and a \u00a33000 bill.&nbsp; Chemo really is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colgate.com\/en-gb\/oral-health\/conditions\/cancer\/chemotherapy-your-mouth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">terrible for my teeth<\/a>, but I guess it\u2019s also better than the alternatives!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My groin is smooth and shiny.
